Meshing for complex solid geometries such as in the case of the Marine CFD example of the oil platform is straightforward in the context of the immersed boundary method. The geometry can is represented through triangles, which are stored in the STL file format. Then the solid and fluid cells and the closest distance to the immersed boundary can be determined through a ray-casting algorithm. In the current example, deep water waves are generated with the numerical wave tank module of REEF3D.
